Highly refined
CONTEMPORARY ESTHETIC DEFINES ELGIN EAST AT BAYVIEW LISA VAN DE VEN
Classic details add elegance to the clean-lined kitchen and bathroom vignettes at Elgin East at Bayview. “It’s definitely a refined contemporary esthetic,” says interior designer Kelly Cray, who used the sales office’s white laminate panelled walls — featuring inset black reveals and a linen texture — to frame the kitchen space, highlighting the darker cabinetry within. The bathroom, too, plays light against dark, with white countertops and floors set against a darker palette. Bronze accents make the spaces pop. “We wanted to provide something that was approachable on many levels,” says the principal with U31. “I think this really caters to a large demographic.” Townhouses and condominium suites at the Sequoia Grove Homes site range from 600 to 1,700 square feet and are priced from the high $300,000s. The sales office is at 10755 Leslie St., Unit A208, Richmond Hill, and open by appointment. Call 905-883-5606 or visit elgineast.com.

“It has a rich quality to it,” Cray says of the kitchen cabinetry. The European laminate cabinets features a wood-grain design stained glossy grey, and infused with a metallic finish. The darker cabinets are paired with a row of open and closed shelving in contrasting white laminate.

The backsplash may look like natural stone, but it’s actually porcelain — a plus when it comes to cost and maintenance, Cray says. The large format tile also helps maintain the room’s clean-lined esthetic. “It was large enough to do the whole backsplash in one piece,” he says.

“The jewel in the crown,” is how Cray describes this light fixture from LightForm. The brass tone pops against the neutral backdrop, while the woven design keeps sightlines open. “It’s not obtrusive — it’s really something that floats there and adds a nice sheen to the space,” he says.

Installed in a herringbone pattern underneath the island only, an engineered wood floor adds visual detail. “It’s one of those classic modern touches,” Cray says. “It definitely changes the vibe, but in a positive way.” Creating contrast, a white quartz countertop waterfalls over both sides of the island.
