Wither accountability

-

Re: Various stories, Budget 2018

One word not mentioned in all the budget news is “accountability.” To normal Canadians, day- to- day obedience to the word “accountable” is absolutely necessary. Yet the government of Canada seems avoids the word and the practice.

For example, how many billions will it take for people living on reserves in Canada to have decent housing, water, and septic systems? Where have all the previous billions gone?

Quite simply, to bureaucrats in Ottawa, living large and wandering the country saying nice things and posing for photo ops, while the system continues to fail these people. This is only one example; there are many many more.

Overpaid bureaucrats need to plead guilty to a complete failure of accountability. Douglas Maclean, Canmore, Alta.

To say that I am appalled at the profligate spending of my hard-earned tax dollars by the Trudeau government is a vast understatement. Their philosophy seems to be, if it votes, throw tax dollars at it.

Never in my 70 years have I seen more egregious examples of the Liberal philosophy that they can spend your money more wisely than you can. I am watching Ontario redux at the federal level and only a fool doesn’t know where those practices have left what was once our richest province.

Their economic incompetence makes Donald Trump look like a genius and is going to drive us to the brink we experienced in the early Chrétien years. This was, of course, the result of the numerous failed social spending experiments of the Trudeau senior years. Unfortunately, I don’t see a Paul Martin in this government’s midst.
