Beauty is in the eye of the reveller
Exhibitions, installations and live performaces make art fair a hit
It was a game of who’s who at the early access preview for the 11th Artist Project, a contemporary art fair. The Better Living Centre provided the perfect canvas for artists, art enthusiasts and dealers who were among the first to view over 5,000 works of art by over 250 artists. In addition to the art, revellers were treated to an evening of live performances, installations, strong cocktails and small bites of delicious food.
As guests arrived, they were welcomed by an illuminative installation from Nathalie Sanche. “Shine On” featured carefully manipulated paper shapes arranged in large, eye- catching sculptures. Everyone could get in on the action at “Take A Picture; Toronto” by Max Hart Barnwell, a 10- foot mural that brought to life a collection of images captured by Torontonians via disposable cameras as part of an interactive art experiment.
After strolling the exhibits, guests partied the night away to beats by Matthew Romeo and Flavia Abadia. Artist Project speakers over the fourday extravaganza included Kelly Juhasz (President of the International Society of Appraisers Canadian Chapter), Erika Floysvik ( Founder of Art Collectif ), Ariel Adkins ( Founder of ArtfullyAwear), Anda Kubis ( Associate Professor at OCAD University), Sherry Czekus and Joanna Gresik ( Artist Project exhibitors), Emily Glover and Sarah Gurevich (ArtMoi) and Mia Nielsen (Director of Art + Culture at The Drake).
A portion of ticket proceeds were donated to Artbound’s Creative Deeds, a program which allows anyone to start a creative campaign online to fundraise for sustainable, artsfocused solutions.
