Splash of elegance
MODEL HOME AT WESTFIELD IN BRAMPTON HAS A CONTEMPORARY FLOURISH LISA VAN DE VEN
“We’re stepping up the colour game on this project,” interior designer Dominic DeFreitas says. With bright, multi-hued accents in every room, colour certainly makes a splash in the Newhaven model home he designed at Westfield in Brampton. While the bones of the house are traditional — with heavy mouldings and dark herringbone-patterned hardwood floors — the bright accents and high-contrast black-and-white colour palette give it a contemporary flourish. Mid-century modern furniture completes the look. “There’s a very elegant feel to the home, despite the playfulness of the colours,” says the vice president of residential development with figure3. Homes at the Great Gulf site range from 1,680 to 3,515 square feet and from $789,990 to $1,209,990. The sales office is located at 8540 Mississauga Rd., Brampton, and open Monday to Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 905-866- 6876 or visit greatgulf.com/westfield.

“We definitely wanted to emphasize the traditionalism,” DeFreitas says. White painted cabinets with raised-panel doors do exactly that in the kitchen, while glass-paned accents around the stove complement the look. Black hardware adds a more contemporary colour twist. “The contrast creates depth,” the designer adds.

“We were strategically subtle in how we layered in the colour,” the designer says. One of many hues highlighted throughout the living spaces, the kitchen’s green accents are kept minimal, complementing the white cabinetry and highlighting the room’s playful accessories and Knoll Bertoia chrome bar stools.

Black and white gets a vivid touch of yellow in the dining room, where this area rug combines the colours and anchors the space. It’s paired with an oversized white light fixture above. “We used modern lighting and modern furniture, mixed with a traditional surrounding,” DeFreitas explains.

Mid-century modern classics add character to the dining room, where chrome Planter chairs surround a Saarinen dining table. “We referred internally to this house as ‘London Chic,’ because many spaces in London have traditional architecture juxtaposed with more of a modern statement inside,” the designer says.
