‘Canadian Women of Worth’ gala honoured inspirational women from across the country
The second annual celebration of “Canadian Women of Wor t h” was all about being inspired. On International Women’s Day, 10 incredible, gamechanging honourees were celebrated at a gala hosted by Dame Helen Mirren. Guests were brought to tears several times as an impressive group of speakers from across the country advocated on behalf of refugees, the homeless, Canadians living with food insecurity, cancer patients and those with autism.
“Through t he Women of Worth program, L’Oréal Paris will empower 10 of the country’s most innovative volunteers to elevate the impact of their charitable work
while shining a well-deserved spotlight on her passion, her innovation and her cause,” enthused Milan Mladjenovic, General Manager of L’Oreal Paris in Canada. L’Oreal Paris will donate $110,000 in financial grants to the Women of Worth Honourees’ non-profit organizations so they can make an even greater impact. Toronto Raptor Serge Ibaka rallied teammates, NBA stars, Toronto FC players, fans and media for the screening of Global Citizen’s documentary Louder Together.
The movie shines a light on the impact of the Global Citizen Festival in New York and India. Global Citizen is a movement of engaged citizens who are using their collective voice to end extreme poverty by 2030.
Ibaka also shared a video documenting some of the work he has done in the Congo to promote health and education. Ibaka then participated in a chat onstage with model Grace Mahary about the Serge Ibaka Foundation. All- stars in attendance included Mahary; Kyle Lowry, Jonas Valanciunas, CJ Miles and Delon Wright of the Toronto Raptors; former NBA all-star Jamaal Magloire; TFC forward Jozy Altidore; and super fan Nav Bhatia.
