THERE’S A LOT OF ‘CONTRAST AND POP’ AT SOLTERRA IN GUELPH LISA VAN DE VEN
Designed for maximum impact, the model home at Solterra in Guelph “has a little bit of a modern, fun flair” and “a lot of contrast and pop,” says Lindsay Grimster, Fusion Homes’ Purchasing, Estimating and Retail department manager. She created a sophisticated but dramatic effect in the 3,550- square- foot four- bedroom home, with a black- and- white palette offset with gold and emerald accents. Natural materials add warmth, while standout ceilings, unexpected white hardwood floors and other trend- forward design details offer buyers inspiration. “We were looking at a client that maybe has children in the home but likes to entertain a lot,” she adds. Homes at Solterra range from 1,350 to 3,950 square feet and start in the mid $500,000s. The sales office is located at 87 Zaduk Plc., Guelph, and is open Monday to Wednesday from 2 to 7 p. m. and weekends from noon to 5 p. m. Call 226- 343-1305 or visit fusionhomes. com.

Drawing eyes upwards, the dining room ceiling makes a statement with a waffle design painted black. Inside each square, Grimster installed patterned wallpaper that picks up on the print of the drapes. “That’s an iconic, traditional wellknown print, and we’ve carried that all through the home,” she says.

A custom Caesar stonetopped table and mismatched chairs create what Grimster calls “a traditional eclectic flair.” She had the table base powdercoated gold and the chairs — a mix of thrift store finds and Restoration Hardware purchases — refinished in matching black to bring the look together.

A bedroom styled for two young boys gets a custom touch with this reclaimed wood wall, installed behind the homework area. “It’s just a nice little rustic element that give it a masculine, little boy look,” says Grimster, who worked with Kitchener-based Lush Woodcraft on the project.

Contemporary white desks from Structube contrast against the bedroom’s more rustic wood wall, while fun accessories — including oversized letters from Restoration Hardware and black metal antlers from Bouclair — lend to the youthful vibe. “The E and B would be for each boy above their desk,” Grimster adds.
