Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski lands a cookbook deal
Spring 2019 debut set despite online attacks
His guacamole has been described as “highly suspect.” His grilled cheese was deemed “dank.” Even his green beans were dismissed as “remedial.” For most of the month of March, the question of whether or not Queer Eye’s resident food and wine expert Antoni Porowski could actually cook was hotly debated.
Now, in the face of the haters, the embattled gourmet has signed a cookbook deal. Rux Martin of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will publish Porowski’s debut in the spring of 2019, Entertainment Weekly reports.
“Antoni has an appealing vulnerability that helps him connect instantly with newbies in the kitchen,” Martin said in a statement. “But his recipes are so stylish and contemporary that they pull in sophisticates too. I was drawn to their blend of European classical approach and American accessibility.”
The collection will feature 100 “personal” recipes that Porowski considers to be “essential to any novice home cook, professional, and somewhere in between.”
Originally from Montreal, Porowski’s culinary credentials include cooking for Ted Allen, Chopped host and connoisseur from the first-generation Queer Eye series. Allen recently came forward to publicly defend his friend’s culinary abilities after numerous online attacks.
“I know better than the haters do on whether the boy can cook. I’ve witnessed his passion,” Allen told Vanity Fair. “I ate his food for three years. Bottom line, when you are dealing with people who don’t know anything about cooking, you don’t begin by showing them how to roast a goose or make a croquembouche.”
