O.K. CORRAL TO MAJOR TOM
A fusion theme at the Henderson Hoedown in Space led to a rootin-tootin good time for all
Cowboys in outer space? Only at the recent Henderson Hoedown in Space could you ever hope to see such a thing.
Co-hosts Maureen Holloway (98.1 CHFI) and Roger Petersen (CityNews Tonight) welcomed space-age cowboys and Star Warsloving cowgirls to the Royal York Hotel for the big brouhaha. The venue was transformed into a futuristic rodeo complete with a Space Diamonds Prosecco bar, an LED hula hoop performance by the Spin Starlets and appearances by Star Wars Storm Troopers.
Bright lights in attendance included Brianne Jenner (Olympic silver medalist), Justin Kripps (Olympic gold medalist), Gareth Wheeler (TSN 1050 Radio), Christina Smith (Wellspring), Peter Gilgan (Mattamy Homes), John Bernhardt (EllisDon), Mark Bridgman (TELUS) and Colleen McMorrow (Wellspring). All in attendance got on their feet for a special performance by Colin James.
Wellspring is a network of community-based support centres that offer more than 40 programs and services, free of charge, to support people living with cancer, at any stage, as well as for those who love and care for them. Serving more than 3,000 people in the GTA every year, Wellspring receives no government funding, and relies on donations and proceeds from events like the Henderson Hoedown, along with corporate partnerships.
“Wellspring has more than 25 years of experience providing emotional, practical, physical/functional and informational support to help those diagnosed with cancer overcome the many challenges that come with a diagnosis,” says Christina Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation. “Funds from this event help provide these professionally-led programs at no charge to people living with cancer.”
With the help of Diamond sponsors BLG, BMO, CIBC, EllisDon, Mattamy Homes, RBC and TELUS, $1.3 million was raised for supportive care and programming at Wellspring. To learn more or to make a donation visit www.wellspring.ca.
