Touch of drama
BUT WARM, WELCOMING FEELING AT VALHALLA TOWN SQUARE LISA VAN DE VEN
Designer Melandro Quilatan kept the colour palette limited in the two-bedroom model suite at Valhalla Town Square. By sticking to grey, white and black he puts an emphasis on texture instead, for a look he calls “masculine,” “dark” and “dramatic.” Silver-grey walls and grey floors so dark they’re almost black provide a backdrop to the space, while chrome accents add hints of metallic. “It’s definitely warm and welcoming,” says the president of Tomas Pearce Interior Design Consulting, who worked with senior stylist Michelle Demeulenaere on the project. “It’s a dramatic palette without feeling oppressive or overwhelming.” Suites at the Edilcan site range from 466 to 1,325 square feet, with one-bedroom layouts starting from $360,000. The sales office is located at 2 Gibbs Rd., Etobicoke, and opens Monday to Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and weekends and holidays from noon to 5 p.m. Call 416-233-5554 or visit valhallatownsquare.com.

“We engaged some designer tricks,” Quilatan says, and the living room sofa is just one example. To make space for the corner column, the designer brought in a grey linen sectional sofa from Ikea, removing the corner module to make room. Toss cushions add texture and pattern.

An outdoor concrete coffee table brings a dash of the unexpected to the living room. “We like to blur the lines between furnishings for indoors and outdoors,” says Quilatan, who paired the table with a black-andwhite Surya cowhide rug and a black leather pouffe from Wayfair.

“It’s a play on a modern chandelier,” Demeulenaere says of this light fixture, which adds a more feminine touch to the master bedroom. Purchased from Bethel International, it’s wrapped in nylon fabric, spreading a diffused light across the room, for what Quilatan calls a “beautiful glow.”

Upholstered in grey linen, with light taupe piping, the Zuo Modern bed adds to the bedroom’s contemporary esthetic. Accessorized with faux fur accent pillows and black waffle bedding, it’s flanked by shagreen nightstands and white marble lamps – adding a range of textures to the space.
