Stand up to Trump

We have a queen

Re: Trump’s tirade sparks support for PM, June 11

The politically charged feud that just took place between U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau proves that history does repeat itself. In 1971, then U.S. president Richard Nixon famously called Justin Trudeau’s father, then prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, an “a--hole.”

The elder Trudeau’s rebuttal was even more colourful and powerful: “I’ve been called worse things by better people.” Chris Cyprus, Fort Richmond (Winnipeg) One question for U.S trade adviser Peter Navarro, who said “There’s a special place in hell” for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: How, pray tell, did you and all the other trump-squeaks acquire such intimate knowledge of Hell’s floor plan? Richard Essery, Thunder Bay, Ont. Now is the time for all Canadians to come together regardless of political affiliations and support our prime minister in the face of narcissistic bullying.

As Canadians, we tend to be more laid-back, not wanting to cause a fuss, believing that everything will work out. Well, it isn’t working out as we’d hoped, so now is the time to take a more active approach. Let your city councillors, MPPs, MPs know that we stand with our workers, our people, our country and we appreciate the stance taken by our government on our behalf.

There is, after all, only one way to deal with a bully, and that is to stand up to him — all of us together. Marika Costa, Burlington, Ont. represents the major industrialized countries seems doubtful as China is not included and Italy and France are.

Something needs to happen in the diplomatic world until the G8 shrinks through G7, G6 to G0 and then gone. Talking is great but achievements are more useful. Dennis Fitzgerald, Melbourne, Australia beloved Jays are struggling. I thank him for all the entertainment, joy, and hope he has given me and now he is breaking my heart. Pauline Bell, Brampton, Ont. Thank you to the National Post for publishing Charles Krauthammer’s columns. It was always a treat to read his brilliant insights. These were also evident every time he appeared on the Fox news panels. The other contributors to these forums put forward interesting opinions but Charles’ brilliant mind always had a perspective that introduced a unique point of view that was doubly educational.

A tragedy to lose the benefit of such a great mind. Anne Robinson, Toronto Re: There’s nothing to stop Canada from making Prince Harry our king, June 11 Ridiculous. Everybody knows who our queen is and she promised to serve for her whole lifetime. We don’t need any glamorous elites to take over the news. Harry and Meghan have their own ways of serving the Commonwealth without more worshipping fans. Canada already has a queen we can be proud of. Nancy Oreopoulos, Orangeville, Ont.
