YZERMAN MOVE SHOCKS; IS DETROIT JOB IN FUTURE?

- Michael Traikos, Postmedia News

Steve Yzerman is stepping down as GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning after building them into a perennial contender, handing the reins to assistant Julien BriseBois just two days before training camp. Yzerman put together Canadian Olympic teams that won back-to-back gold medals in 2010 and 2014. “This change is important for me, which will allow me to spend more time with my family,” Yzerman said in a news conference, adding he is 100 per cent committed to his adviser role for the upcoming season. Whether this move was to be closer to his family, or the Lightning pushed Yzerman aside at the risk of losing BriseBois, the move isn’t permanent. Detroit, where he spent his entire career as a player and cut his teeth working under GM Ken Holland, seems the most likely landing spot. With Holland being linked to running the likely expansion Seattle franchise in 2020-21, a return to Detroit makes sense.
