What to watch on Netflix, CraveTV and Amazon Prime in October.
WHAT TO WATCH ON NETFLIX, CRAVETV AND AMAZON PRIME VIDEO IN OCTOBER
The most highly-anticipated series to debut this month is Amazon Prime’s The Romanoffs. Created by nine-time Emmy winner Matthew Weiner (Mad Men), the series features a star-studded cast, including Isabelle Huppert, Diane Lane, Amanda Peet, Aaron Eckhart, Kathryn Hahn, Clea DuVall, Corey Stoll, and Mad Men regulars Christina Hendricks and John Slattery, among others. Each of the eight episodes will feature different characters from around the world who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family.
For more globe-spanning, check out Netflix’s new food docu-series, featuring chef Samin Nosrat, which looks at simple food rooted in tradition. And if you’ve still got the munchies, head over to CraveTV for the Viceland series Bong Appétit (which coincides with the series’ new cookbook, also out this month), a cannabis cooking show that follows Abdullah Saeed as he cooks up some highly infused dinner parties alongside notable chefs.
One cannot go through October without prime Halloween viewing. Netflix will be your go-to destination, particularly on Oct. 20, when the network will drop every Scary Movie and Scream instalment you can handle, along with several other choice horror titles, including, of course, Halloween.
But if you like your horror viewing a little more chill, opt for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, starring Kiernan Shipka. The Mad Men actress takes over the reins from Melissa Joan Hart in this darker reincarnation of the beloved teen series, which plays out in the same universe as Riverdale. Can you say future crossover?
If you want to get more real, the second season of Making A Murderer picks up with Steven Avery and Brandon Dassey as they continue their fight for exoneration. Chase that with laughs with Hasan Minhaj’s new series Patriot Act, in which we’ll get a weekly dose of his unique style of storytelling mixed with comedy and real-world headlines.

If you don’t already know who Michaela Coel is, take a weekend to surf through her series Chewing Gum. At just 12 episodes, it’s a uniquely hilarious take on a 20-something woman who really, really, really wants to lose her virginity but just can’t quite the right moment. You can next catch her in Been So Long, Netflix’s latest rom-com pumped out for the masses. Coel didn’t write and create this one, but she does star in it as a single mom who falls in love with a stranger (Arinzé Kene) during a night out in London. It also happens to be a musical, and based on the trailer released this week, it’s bound to be quite swoonworthy.
