A ringing endorsement, or not?
Re: Now who’s interfering? Kelly Mcparland, Oct. 17
Kelly Mcparland’s article on former U. S. president Barack Obama’s endorsement of Justin Trudeau serves as an example of the hypocrisy surrounding the issue of foreign influence in elections.
Really, there is nothing wrong with trying to influence elections or political events anywhere in the world. I do not intend to vote for Trudeau, and Obama’s endorsement only serves to reinforce my decision. The real issues are the credibility of the endorser and the intelligence of the electorate.

Who cares? Barack Obama endorsed Hillary Clinton, too, and we all know how that turned out.
Do we really think that the Canadian electorate is so ignorant that they’ll vote for a particular party because a former American president says so?
Besides, any focus on this matter by the press only plays into the Liberals’ hands. The real foreign interference into our election comes from the likes of the American Tides Foundation whose millions spent in the 2015 election apparently tipped the balance in favour of the Liberals. Are we going to allow such interference again?
So never mind Obama’s interference; that’s just noise and convenient distraction for the Liberals. Please focus on American foundation’s expenditures here and the real foreign interference in this election.

During the federal election campaign, editorial cartoonist Gary Clement has produced an almost unbroken string of insightful, probing and entertaining drawings, as he did for the piece Now who’s interfering?
Clement’s creative drawings prove the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words (as a counter-balance to the front page commentary).
Parliament Hill has a Sergeant- at- Arms, an Ethics Commissioner and a Parliamentary Budget Officer to keep our politicians on the straight and narrow. It’s too bad we don’t have a Cartoonist- in- Residence. If we did, I’d nominate Clement.
