The road to oblivion

-

Re: Poll shows split on Scheer’s future, Nov. 7

The federal Conservative caucus, by cowardly failing to depose Andrew Scheer in favour of kicking the can to the future, are marching down the same road to oblivion that they took by selecting him in the first place.

Surely by now everyone realizes how incompetent Scheer’s past term as leader of the Opposition was and there’s no indication he’s since improved in any meaningful way. The caucus can survive, albeit on life support, with Scheer at the helm.

Unfortunately, it is we the public who must suffer through four more years of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s gross mismanagement.

Although one can point to several issues in the Conservatives’ loss of this election, despite increasing the overall seat numbers to 121, there are three key issues that Andrew Scheer and his campaign team should have addressed months ago. I’m referring to: Scheer’s dual citizenship in Canada and the United States; Scheer’s insurance company experience; and his position on women’s rights.

It should have been a no-brainer for the campaign team to thoroughly brief Scheer on how to answer questions on these topics.

Did anyone doubt these issues would be raised? In my view, the campaign team was derelict in not preparing him to answer these questions directly, honestly, and with firmness.

Did this cost votes? Most likely.
