“Ilove the feel and layout of the cottage. It’s a smart design. They preserved the original cabin ( built in 1935) and built a breezeway and decks to link living spaces. There are several areas to relax and take in the natural elements inside and out. Walking barefoot on the island is a treat with smooth granite everywhere,” says listing agent Courtney Murgatroyd.

The original cottage, on a 1.9- acre private island, was renovated and expanded in 2009 under the architectural design eye of Paul Hughes.

It was up for sale since last June, which isn’t unusual, she says. Under normal circumstances, “islands usually take longer to sell, sometimes one or two seasons. It’s a lifestyle play where you’re looking for key elements that appeal to your family. Emotions run higher. You buy the property because you love it, not because it’s close to grocery stores or movie theatres.”

The best feature is that it’s a turnkey cottage with beautiful views and “ownership of the neighbouring cluster of islands for added privacy. It will appeal to current Georgian Bay cottagers wanting to accommodate a growing family.”

This will be a family that wants “sensational sunsets, smooth granite, pristine waters and neighbours from afar,” Murgatroyd says.

The living room has a stone fireplace and floor- toceiling windows to capitalize on the water and sunset views. A breezeway leads to the original cabin that includes the kitchen, dining room and a covered porch.

Family members refer to the cottage as The Cabin. It’s positioned at the edge of the open water, and oriented to take in the views south to Cognashene and west towards Giant Tomb, she says.

A deck links the main cottage to three bedrooms and a master suite, which has a three- piece ensuite bathroom.

The property has a 28-foot boat port and is 25 minutes from marinas in Honey Harbour.
