Recoveries sideline Pastrnak, Marchand

-

Boston Bruins forwards David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand likely will miss the start of next season as they recover from their respective surgeries, the team announced.

Per the Bruins, Pastrnak is expected to need approximately five months to recover after undergoing a right hip arthroscopy and labral repair on Sept. 16.

His linemate Marchand is expected to require four months to recover following hernia surgery on Sept. 14.

Pastrnak, 24, shared the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy in 2019- 20 as the NHL’S leading goal scorer with Washington Capitals superstar captain Alex Ovechkin, tallying 48 goals.

Marchand, 32, had 28 goals and 87 points in 70 regular- season games last season.

half- marathoners cancel late

Canada has pulled its team out of the world half- marathon championships in Poland this weekend over COVID-19 health and safety concerns, Athletics Canada said on Wednesday.

A five- member team was due to take part at the event in Gdynia, but with Poland seeing a second spike in COVID- 19 cases Athletics Canada decided it could not put “our athletes, coaches and staff in harm’s way.”

The event had originally been scheduled for March 29 but was rescheduled to Oct. 17.

Premier bailout rejected

Premier League clubs have rejected plans put forward by Liverpool and Manchester United for radical changes to the league’s structures and finances and instead set up their own review of the game, British media reports said on Wednesday.

The Project Big Picture proposals would see an increase in funds for the 72 clubs in the Football League but also include special voting rights for the top clubs in the Premier League and a reduction of teams in the top flight from 20 to 18.

The plan has been fronted by EFL chairman Rick Parry and would have included a $ 325.85 million bailout for his clubs, who face acute financial issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All the same in times of COVID

Football fans in Lisbon were unsurprised after Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo tested positive COVID-19, saying it simply showed everyone was at risk of getting infected — and famous athletes were no exception.

“We are all human beings,” said Antonio Rodrigues in Lisbon. “It is not because he is Ronaldo that the dynamic of the situation is different.”

Portuguese SIC Television said the 35- year- old Juventus forward was asymptomatic and would travel to the Italian city of Turin, where he lives, on Wednesday afternoon to quarantine there.
