Timber frame construction, more commonly seen in cottage country, was the design of choice for the couple who built this home in 2004.
The centrepiece of the 2,800- square- foot residence is a 33- foot- high stone great room fireplace flanked by floor- to- ceiling windows offering spectacular views, says listing agent Verna Debono. “It’s open green space. You don’t see anyone at the sides or back of the property.”
The great room, which is open to the kitchen and dining room, provides family- friendly gathering space. Two bedrooms and an office, all with garden views, are also on the main floor. The main bedroom suite, which is on the upper level, has a vaulted ceiling, a two- storey stone gas fireplace and a five-piece ensuite bathroom.
A media room, a recreation room with a walkout to the garden and a family room provide additional hangout space on the lower level.
Natural stone, beamed wood ceilings, millwork and modern conveniences are featured throughout the home, which is set on an approximately 7.7- acre private lot surrounded by “pristine nature and lush gardens,” Debono says.
Another interesting feature, she says, is the separate three- storey 1,100- squarefoot garage. It has a gym and storage one level below ground and a second- floor suite.
There was a lot of interest in the home and there were two offers to purchase.
“Normally rural properties take a longer time frame to sell,” Debono says. “Under normal circumstances it might take six months to a year, however COVID changed that and there is an influx of demand for this type of property from people who want to move out of the GTA into the 905 so they can have more personal space.”
Bradford, north and slightly west of Newmarket, offers subdivision homes as well as rural properties. A bypass will link highways 400 and 404, north of the 8th Line, making the property well suited to commuting.
