Allen powers Bills past Seahawks

Quarterback has an MVP day, throwing three TDS and adding one on the ground

-

Buffalo’s Josh Allen put himself in the MVP conversation, throwing for 415 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score to outduel Russell Wilson, as the Bills defeated the visiting Seattle Seahawks 44- 34 Sunday afternoon in Orchard Park, N.Y., in a matchup of division leaders.

Stefon Diggs and John Brown combined for 17 receptions for 217 yards and the defence forced four turnovers for the Bills (7-2), who remain atop the AFC East.

The NFC West- leading Seahawks (6-2) suffered their second defeat in the past three games.

Wilson, considered by many the front- runner for the MVP award at midseason, was 28 of 41 for 390 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for a score but lost two second- half fumbles while being sacked as the Seahawks attempted to rally from a 24-10 halftime deficit.

Wilson threw a 55- yard touchdown pass to David Moore and a seven-yarder to DK Metcalf, who had a teamhigh seven receptions for 108 yards.

Seattle got within 27- 20 late in the third quarter on a four- yard touchdown run by rookie Deejay Dallas and a 44-yard field goal by Jason Myers.

Rookie Zack Moss had a one- yard touchdown run and Allen scored from three yards out to put the Bills up 41-20.

After re-establishing their running game last week in a 24- 21 victory against New England, the Bills kept to the air in the first half to attack Seattle’s league- worst passing defence.

Buffalo attempted only three rushes in the first half, instead relying on Allen’s hot hand. He completed 24 of 28 attempts before the intermission for 282 yards and three TDS. Allen threw scoring strikes to Isaiah Mckenzie ( 25 yards), Tyler Kroft ( one yard) and Gabriel Davis (four yards).

The Bills scored touchdowns on their first two possessions and Tyler Bass added a 44-yard field goal on the third for a 17- 0 lead.

Seattle played without its two top running backs, Chris Carson (mid-foot sprain) and Carlos Hyde (hamstring), for the second straight week because of injuries.

Jackson lifts Ravens past Colts

Lamar Jackson had 228 yards of total offence and a rushing touchdown and Gus Edwards ran for another score to lead the visiting Baltimore Ravens to a 24-10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Baltimore ( 6- 2) became the first team to defeat the Colts ( 5- 3) at Lucas Oil Stadium this season despite being outgained 339-266.

The Ravens outscored the Colts 17- 0 in the second half. Edwards gave Baltimore a 14-10 lead with a one- yard touchdown run with 5:43 remaining in the third quarter.

Jackson padded the lead with 11: 08 remaining in the fourth quarter, scoring on a nine-yard run.

Baltimore, which boasts the top rushing attack in the NFL, did just enough on the ground against Indianapolis, which entered Sunday with the No. 2 rushing defence in the league. Jackson's touchdown capped a 14-play, 75-yard drive that swallowed 8:23 of clock time.

Justin Tucker closed the scoring with a 48- yard field goal with 2: 08 to go. Jackson rebounded from a four- turnover game in a home loss to Pittsburgh last week, going 19- for- 23 passing for 170 yards while rushing 13 times for 58 yards and a score.

J. K. Dobbins ran for 30 yards while Nick Boyle had four receptions for 46 yards.

Philip Rivers was 25- for43 passing for 227 yards and an interception for the Colts, who fell one game behind Tennessee for the AFC South lead. Jordan Wilkins led the Colts' ground game with 11 rushes for 39 yards, while Michael Pittman had four receptions for 56 yards.

Tannehill, defence propel Titans to win

Ryan Tannehill threw for two touchdowns and the Tennessee Titans' maligned defence played one of its best games of the year in a 24-17 win over the struggling Chicago Bears in Nashville, Tenn.

Tannehill completed just 10 of 21 passes, but for 158 yards with no interceptions. NFL rushing leader Derrick Henry was held to 68 yards on 21 carries for Tennessee, which gained a season- low 228 total yards.

But the Titans defence came up big against one of the league's weaker offences. Tennessee held Chicago off the scoreboard through three quarters while posting a season- high three sacks. The Titans entered the game with only seven.

Tennessee ( 6-2) also limited the Bears to converting two of 15 third downs after entering the day allowing opponents to convert a league- high 61.9 per cent, the worst mark in the NFL since 1991.

Chicago quarterback Nick Foles connected on 36 of 52 passes for 335 yards, including fourth- quarter touchdown passes to Ryan Nall and Jimmy Graham.

But it wasn't enough to keep the Bears from falling to 5-4, 1 1/2 games behind first-place Green Bay in the NFC North.

Tennessee took a onegame lead in the AFC South over Indianapolis. The Colts play the Titans on Thursday night.
