Rocky times for Seahawks and QB Wilson

Team isn’t at all happy with star throwing shade

- DON BRENNAN

the list of NFL teams in a happy and committed relationship with their current starting quarterback looks to be considerably shorter than the ones showing a potential for divorce.

Suddenly, surprisingly, the Seahawks and russell Wilson appear in need of a marriage counsellor.

yes, that would be the same russell Wilson who was a top most valuable player candidate for much of a 12-4, 2020 season that represented Seattle’s fourth division title in the nine years under his leadership.

The same russell Wilson who has been selected to the Pro bowl eight times and twice taken the Seahawks to the Super bowl, winning the Lombardi Trophy in 2013 and coming within a bad coach’s call of repeating 12 months later.

The same russell Wilson who, at 32, still has three years left on a very team-friendly contract that will pay him us$69 million.

If you’re the Seahawks, what’s not to love?

Well, some of the comments Wilson has made publicly this week, apparently.

In what’s being referred to as the his “media tour” with interviews (GQ and The ellen degeneres Show) that give him and his wife Ciara a chance to pitch their new fragrance, Wilson has also had sit-downs with CBS and the dan Patrick Show. Talking football, he has stated he would like to be more “involved” in team decisions and that he’s “frustrated” about getting hit so often.

Wilson’s been sacked more times (394) in his career than any other Qb has been in his first nine years.

Asked if he thinks he’s available in a trade, Wilson said: “I’m not sure … that’s a Seahawks question.”

It may have been out of the question before his media tour began.

“A source told me that the Seahawks management is not happy with russell Wilson and his camp for taking this to the media,” Patrick said a day after his interview with Wilson. “you wonder if they’re going to be able to co-exist. … The current situation is not sustainable. That’s what I was told.”

As a result, Seahawks general manager John Schneider has been taking calls on No. 3.

“More teams have reached out about russell Wilson,” said NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, “but the Seahawks have shown no inclination to trade their star quarterback.”

If that changes, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo says “the bears would be knocking down that door.”

According to Sportsbetting.ag, the raiders (+300) are considered the odds-on favourite to acquire Wilson, while next in line are the Cowboys (+600), Jaguars (+700), Washington (+800) and the 49ers (+900).

The raiders, Cowboys and 49ers would seem to be set with derek Carr, dak Prescott (who needs a new contract) and Jimmy Garoppolo, respectively, but even happy marriages can be fractured by an attraction to somebody else.

In a discussion on PFT Live, it was decided that just eight teams would remain in love with their current quarterback for the next two seasons: the bills (Josh Allen), ravens (Lamar Jackson), bengals (Joe burrow), Chiefs (Patrick Mahomes), Chargers (Justin Herbert), buccaneers (Tom brady), Cardinals (Kyler Murray) and Titans (ryan Tannehill).

That leaves 75 per cent of the league open to playing the field.

The guess here, regarding Wilson: He’s not about to be traded, but he’s not finishing his career in Seattle, either. LONG-BOMBED: Well-documented is the strict regimen brady maintains in order to keep playing at a very high level into his 40s. The man treats his body like a temple. As much as he is respected for his extremely healthy lifestyle, brady let his hair down for all to see at Wednesday’s boat parade to celebrate his seventh Super bowl title.

First came what may go down as his most famous pass — throwing the Lombardi Trophy from his boat to another, where it was caught by a shirtless Cameron

YOU WONDER IF THEY’RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO CO-EXIST.

brate, who was initially misidentified as rob Gronkowski. (Those tight ends all look alike, right?)

“That was the best catch of my life,” said brate, who has 237 receptions and 30 touchdowns over his seven-year NFL career. “unbelievable. If I had dropped that, I think I would have had to retire.”

On the NFL Network, brate called the throw a “pretty ballsy move by Tom” while admitting both had a couple of “adult beverages.”

yeah, no kidding. brady tweeted out the ESPN video of him giggling while being helped off the boat — looking like a complete mess — with the caption: “Noting to see her … just little avocado tequila.”

The video had 29.6 million views and was liked just over 86,000 times. It had to be loved by everybody else — after that season, the guy fully deserved to have himself a good time.

brady will have a minor surgical procedure on his knee, per multiple reports. Tampa bay head coach bruce Arians called it “a cleanup.”
