BELLIS, Margaret Mary

-

May 23, 1951 - Jan 30, 2021

Mary Bellis, known to family and friends as Mamie, was born May 23, 1951, the second daughter of Margie and Jack Bellis' six children. In this close knit family Mary developed the values that would define her life, and her legacy, sharing and caring.

Mary graduated from nursing in Lethbridge in 1973. For almost half a century first in Kamloops and then Vancouver she was well recognized and well loved for her professional excellence and her compassionate instinct of the needs of those in her care, even when not expressed. She provided support and solace to the parents of the most vulnerable children who she cared for with deep feeling and utmost patience.

Mary's generosity was legendary and her many nieces and nephews remember not just her special gifts but the time she spent telling stories, walking the beach with one or other of her big old dogs, and relishing each of them as special individuals. Mamie was fun and adventurous, taking a solo cross Canada trip in her van to visit friends and family. Sharing her father's love of all things aeronautical, she got her small plane license when she returned to Vancouver. She was a mainstay at every family celebration, be it wedding, funeral or Sunday dinner. But it was her spirit of generosity and compassion that will be remembered. Sharing and caring is her legacy. Donations in her memory to any of her favourite charities are welcome. spca.bc.ca, Worldvision.ca, wwf.ca (world wildlife federation)
