House into a political bazaar where everyone can look for bargains at the appropriate price. If they were real lucky, the Greens could even end up with the balance of power, as Green parties have in other countries.

That’s the dream, in any case. It’s a bit odd that May, while mulling her future, told reporters she didn’t really like the job, would be happier doing something else and was willing to hand the reins over to a successor, if only one could be found. If that’s the case, why stick around to help the party obtain the sort of clout that would let the caucus express its anti-Israel views no matter what the leader might think?

She should have quit. Principles should mean something in every party, but a party with only one seat shouldn’t be split over what it believes. May’s beliefs obviously aren’t in sync with much of her membership, and fundamental beliefs shouldn’t be negotiable, like trade policy or the price of a new rug. If her departure left the Green’s in the lurch, so be it. The lurch is what they deserve, given what we now known of their views.
