Putting PM in his place

-

Re: PM’s vacation location proves details matter, Jan. 9

His selfie-obsessed photogenic smile won’t defeat him; his carefully scripted, progressive-sounding rhetoric won’t defeat him; even having imposed crippling levels of debt to insulate his social warrior alter ego will not defeat him.

The one thing that can bring down Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government is the prime minister’s self-revealed mendacity in claiming to promote transparency and middle class values while covertly trolling for personal and political gain from billionaire friends and suitors.

The Canadian public has been taken in by rehearsed goodwill and empathetic crocodile tears before, but it has quickly shown that brazen hypocrisy from its political leadership will not be tolerated. Graham R. Mann, Winnipeg To provide a different perspective to the erudite Chris Selley’s comments, I submit the following article, which appeared in “Housewife” magazine in England, sometime in the 1950s:

‘Nowadays, if you are worried about seating arrangements for your guests, you can write to the Heralds of the College of Arms and hope for a reply as superb as the one received by the anxious hostess of the Aga Khan: “The Aga Khan,” it ran, “is held by his followers to be the direct descendant of God. An English Duke takes precedence’.” Colin Mount, Belleville, Ont.
