How about take in? A restaurant with no kitchen all the rage
A new pop-up in Helsinki, Finland — Take In — invites people to eat takeout meals in a restaurant with no kitchen.
Food delivery service Wolt has partnered with 20 of its most popular casual dining restaurants, and select fine dining spots that are exclusive to the pop-up. The question you may be asking is, “Why?”
The concept of eating takeaway in a restaurant, instead of on your couch, is counterintuitive.
However, Monocle reports, the idea behind Take In is to accommodate diners who want to eat together, but not necessarily settle on the same style of food or the fare of just one restaurant. “We want to be a living room in the city,” a Wolt spokesperson tells Monocle.
People can just pop in for a drink — a Helsinki bar provides hosting services and serves drinks — or order food via the Wolt app.
The meals are served by waiting staff, and there are plates available but it’s expected that diners eat straight out of the delivery containers.
“We all know what it’s like — you’re about to go out for dinner with a big group of friends, one of you wants to go for pizza, one of you wants to go and try that fantastic new find dining restaurant.
One of you just wants sushi. One of you is only having salad because you’ve gone carb-free for January. What are you going to do?” a Wolt spokesperson tells Monocle.
“Well, the answer in Helsinki right now is you come to Take In because you can do all of those things in the same place.”
