IS SNL NOW ‘WHAT IT WAS ALWAYS TRYING TO MAKE FUN OF’?
Saturday Night Live is not what it used to be. For longtime fans of the comedy sketch series, this should be no secret. In fact, the 2016 U.S. presidential election season and Donald Trump’s current run in the White House may be controversial, but it could also very well be SNL’s saving grace. With the recent addition of Alec Baldwin in the recurring role of Trump, in particular, the show has boasted several political sketches every single week, and dramatically picked up its ratings. But otherwise, has it lost its touch? Yes, if you ask former SNL alum Noël Wells, pictured. “SNL has become what it was always trying to make fun of,” she told Vanity Fair. “It’s become this big machine. I don’t want to be plugged into a machine.”
