ON THIS DAY
March 20, 1896 Wilfrid May was born at Carberry, Man. He was a novice pilot on the Western Front pursued by the “Red Baron,” when the noted German ace was killed on April 21, 1918. May might have been his 81st victim, but went on to become one of Canada’s leading post-war bush flyers. In 1929, he won the McKee Trophy, awarded for contributing to the advancement of Canadian aviation.
