May 24, 1918 - The Canada Elections Act extended the right to vote in federal elections to most Canadian women over the age of 21. Conditions on the women’s franchise included being a British subject and meeting the requiremen­ts that allowed men to vote. True democracy had yet to be achieved in Canada though, with many groups, such as Chinese, Japanese and Indigenous peoples facing disenfranc­hisement well into the 20th century.
