May 24, 1918 - The Canada Elections Act extended the right to vote in federal elections to most Canadian women over the age of 21. Conditions on the women’s franchise included being a British subject and meeting the requirements that allowed men to vote. True democracy had yet to be achieved in Canada though, with many groups, such as Chinese, Japanese and Indigenous peoples facing disenfranchisement well into the 20th century.
