July 31, 1910 — Wanted criminal Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen was arrested on the Canadian Pacific liner SS Montrose near Rimouski, Que. Dr. Crippen was charged with murder in England after his wife’s body was found under the cellar floor. He’d moved his lover into his home soon after reporting his wife’s supposed death in California. Sensing something amiss, a detective questioned Dr. Crippen who soon after fled with his lover to Antwerp, where they sailed for Canada.
