July 31, 1910 — Wanted crim­i­nal Dr. Haw­ley Har­vey Crip­pen was ar­rested on the Cana­dian Pa­cific liner SS Mon­trose near Ri­mouski, Que. Dr. Crip­pen was charged with mur­der in Eng­land af­ter his wife’s body was found un­der the cel­lar floor. He’d moved his lover into his home soon af­ter re­port­ing his wife’s sup­posed death in Cal­i­for­nia. Sens­ing some­thing amiss, a de­tec­tive ques­tioned Dr. Crip­pen who soon af­ter fled with his lover to An­twerp, where they sailed for Canada.
