Cattrall: ‘I never asked for any money’

- National Post

Sex and the City star didn’t want to do a threequel that halted production at the last minute.

“I never asked for any money,” she said. “I never asked for any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous. ... Me playing, that I can assure you will never happen. This isn’t about more money, this is not about more scenes, it’s not about any of those things. This is about a clear decision, an empowered decision in my life to end one chapter and start another. I’m 61. It’s now.”

But here’s the thing: any talk of a SATC threequel died long ago. Then, this past September, rumours swirled that Cattrall had demanded a multi-picture deal from Warner Bros. in exchange for signing on.

She quickly distanced herself from these whispers on Twitter, writing, “The only ‘DEMAND’ I ever made was that I didn’t want to do a 3rd film .... & that was back in 2016.”

Reportedly, all four women were set to receive equal pay days for their work, while the remaining cast and crew were already set to sign on. The script was already locked and principal photography was scheduled to begin just days after she allegedly dug her heels.

Willie Garson, who played Stanford Blatch on the series, not-so-cryptically tweeted the same day, “Disappointed for all crew holding on for negotiations to conclude for their jobs, and of course, for the fans. Leave it at that. #Truth”

During her Piers Morgan interview, Cattrall said she wished for better treatment from the cast: “And this is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I think she could have been nicer … It feels like a toxic relationship.” She added of the rest of her three co-stars, “We’ve never been friends. We’ve been colleagues and in some way, it’s a very healthy place to be.”

Garson then tweeted again: “Dear fans, because I’m ‘toxic’, I’m going to negotiate a contract for 6 months, not come to terms, then say I never wanted to do it anyway.”

Ouch. Meanwhile, Cattrall retweeted countless fans disapproving of a threequel, and praising her for choosing not to sign on, along with those suggesting her character just be killed off.
