Remini says LAPD trying to bury probe

Masterson Scientology connections

Danny Masterson, who is a member of the Church of Scientology, is currently facing multiple rape allegations by fellow Church members. He was placed under investigation by the LAPD in March, but the investigation was inexplicably “stalled” despite what the Huffington Post is calling “overwhelming” evidence.

Rumours have since flown that the Church has been directly involved in attempting to bury the allegations and dismiss the investigation, and now former Scientologist Leah Remini, who has become an outspoken activist against the organization, is saying she believes these claims.

In a new interview with The Daily Beast, Remini says she believes the LAPD has a close relationship with the Church, one that has kept Masterson from being charged. She also noted that the police department’s Hollywood division captain, Cory Palka, is often seen and photographed at Scientology’s Celebrity Centre just “hanging out.”

An anonymous Daily Beast source added that Palka has been known to have a “seemingly cozy relationship” with the Church that has left many officers suspicious. The website has also confirmed that the LAPD collaborated on fundraisers with the Church, many of which Masterson has participated in.

Remini said, “Scientology is very slick in that it’s partnered in this Police Activities League with the Hollywood division, and every year around Christmastime, Celebrity Centre International, right on Franklin, presents the Hollywood Police Department with a cheque for this Police Activities League, which gives back to children. What it’s done is it’s aligned itself as per its policies, because there are Scientology policies that say, ‘Safe-point yourself to the area police department because then nobody will attack your good works,’ so it’s all very pointed and calculated.”

One of Masterson’s alleged victims, Chrissie Bixler, who sought Remini’s help when she reported her assault and left the Church, said recently that when she reported it to the Church itself, she was dissuaded from taking the matter further, and was told she could not have been raped by Masterson because they were in a committed relationship. She claims the Church threatened to declare her a “suppressive person” (essentially being excommunicated) if she did not drop her claims.

Masterson has continued to deny all allegations.
