True love rose to the occasion

- SADAF AHSAN

For one of the greatest Bachelor moments of all time, we must go to – not the American, but – the Vietnamese iteration of the popular reality program which, as we’re all well aware by now, features 25 women competing for the heart of one studly dude.

In a recent episode, however, contestant Minh Thu turned down a rose during the ceremony and instead revealed her love for a fellow competitor. Tearfully standing in front of Bachelor Nguyen Quoc Trung, Thu said, “I went into this competition to find love, but it isn’t you. It’s someone else.” And then, in one of the franchise’s most romantic moments, Thu walked away from Trung and over to Truc Nhu, standing behind her in a crowd with the other women vying for the Bachelor’s love.

Thu fell into Nhu’s arms for a hug, and then said, tearfully and simply, “Come home with me.” This, despite Nhu having already been granted a rose by Trung.

As struck by emotion as Thu, Nhu then walked over to Trung, and said, “I’m sorry. I really want to get to know you. Because you’re someone who made me feel special, and I haven’t felt that way in a long time.”

As he protested, insisting she stay so they could develop their connection, Nhu handed him back the rose and walked away with Thu.

Unfortunately, the romance may have ended there. According to The Independent, Nhu changed her mind soon after and decided to return to the competition when Trung, despite having 20 other women to choose from, chased after her and begged her to stay.

She reportedly said, “After talking to Trung, I’ve changed my mind to accept this rose and continue this journey.”

Call it the wildest rose ceremony of all time. But finding unexpected love on The Bachelor isn’t totally unheard of. On Australia’s 2016 season, contestants Megan Marx and Tiffany Scanlon fell in love while competing for the same Bachelor, and dated for nearly a year after the show aired.
