Has John Mayer slept with 500 women?

We now know that Justin Bieber did not, in fact, eat a burrito sideways in public last week, and in yet another debunking, we can confirm John Mayer has not slept with 500 women. Maybe.

Last week, on his Instagram Live show, which is totally a thing and called Current Mood, Mayer informed guest Cazzie David, a writer and daughter of Larry, that he has fornicated with “less than 500 people.”

After angering prudes and fans of grammar, Mayer went on to say, “I find people not being into me brings a real level of reality into my life, whereas when I was in my early 20s where I really couldn’t miss, I kind of abused that. Not so long ago I gave a girl my number and she said, ‘I probably won’t use it.’ ”

He mentioned realizing the change when he attended an Oscar party two years ago: “I saw Scarlett Johansson, and I said to myself for the first time in my life with the clearest of voices, ‘She wants nothing to do with you.’ And I found that really relieving.”

After sharing his struggle, Mayer’s number went viral, with many trying to deduce whether it could actually be true, taking his celebrity and self-declared promiscuity into account.

To end the debate, on another episode of the show on Sunday, he said, “I made reference to being a sub-500 guy and you guys, I know, listen, it’s a tough world out there and you want people to like you. And I try to do it too. But I feel like people might like you more if you would just go along with what the truth is… I also just wanna say that I thought about it over the week and I actually went back over my entire dating history and… my number is six. So I just wanted you to know that. That my number is six.”

While it seems clear this is yet another dodging of the truth, we do know for certain that Mayer previously dated Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.

But as for his number? Do we really want to know?
