CHOCOLATE REAFFIRMED AS GOOD FOR YOUR HEART
Willy Wonka, inadvertent cardiologist? A study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology has reaffirmed the heart-boosting benefits of chocolate, CNN reports. “Our study suggests that chocolate helps keep the heart’s blood vessels healthy,” said Dr. Chayakrit Krittanawong of Baylor College of Medicine. He added that it’s packed with antioxidants that reduce inflammation, improve blood flow and boost mood and concentration. The study also found that eating chocolate more than once a week was associated with an eight-per-cent decreased risk of coronary artery disease. But all chocolate isn’t created equal: Dark chocolate has more cocoa solids and less sugar than milk or white chocolate. And moderation is key — aim for a oneounce bite a few times per week.
