ROBERT KENNEDY’S DAUGHTER SUES FOR GARDEN URN FROM FAMILY HOME

When Robert Kennedy’s family in 2009 decided to sell its famed Hickory Hill estate in McLean, Va., daughter Kerry wanted to take a 1.3-metre-high urn planter as an heirloom for the family compound in Hyannis Port, Mass. The new owner resisted, but said he would give it up in 10 years — and signed a written agreement. When Kennedy later asked for it, he refused, and she sued. The new owner thought the urn had been brought to Hickory Hill by Jackie Kennedy in the 1950s when she and JFK bought the house (they subsequently swapped homes with RFK), and that it should go with the family. But upon learning it had been at Hickory Hill before the Kennedys, he thought it should stay with the property.
