Modernize Indian Act

-

Re: Ottawa urged to get more involved in lobster fight,

Sept. 22

As someone whose Nova Scotia ocean view is punctuated every May and June by the buoys from dozens of strings of lobster traps, I well understand the serious nature of this business. This recent altercation again pits one group against another. The cause? There are two sets of laws governing the two groups involved with this fishery. It's far past high time for government to stop with the warm words, empty promises and throwing money at these situations. With all of the free time that parliamentarians have by not sitting in the House of Commons, perhaps a few of them could draft some meaningful and constructive legislation to replace, overhaul or modernize the Indian Act.
