OFF THE TOP AND NOW, A WINE FOR TACO BELL

- Melissa Hank, Postmedia News

“Garçon, bring me a bottle of your finest Taco Bell wine.” Don't laugh — the fast-food restaurant really does have its own wine and it pairs perfectly with the brand's new Toasted Cheesy Chalupa. Jalapeño Noir is a Pinot Noir from the Queenston Mile Vineyard in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., and so far has only been released in Canada. Created by award-winning winemaker Rob Power, it has notes of wild strawberry, cherry and beetroot, and is sold with three different labels to appeal to collectors. “Wine and cheese are simply meant to be together, so launching a new wine to go with the craveable, cheddary Toasted Cheesy Chalupa made perfect sense,” said Kat Garcia, director of brand marketing. Jalapeño Noir sold out within 10 minutes of its Sept. 17 release, but more bottles are coming soon. It retails for $25 at tacobell.ca.
