ON THIS DAY

-

October 6, 1970 - A day into the October Crisis, the Front de Libération du Québec or FLQ began sending ransom notes to radio station CKAC, threatening the life of British Trade Commissioner James Cross if their demands were not met.The FLQ had abducted Cross at gunpoint the day before. Several Québec newspapers published the FLQ manifesto that same day, though none of the ransom demands were met.The abduction of James Cross and the abduction and murder of Pierre Laporte would result in the enactment of the War Measures Act by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau’s government.
