October 19, 2012 - Lincoln Alexander, Canada’s first Black MP, died at age 90. Alexander joined the RCAF in 1942 and served through the end of the Second World War. He then turned to higher education and worked as a lawyer, until his successful election campaign in 1968. He was re-elected four times, serving his Hamilton, Ont., constituen­ts for 12 years. He later became the first Black person appointed to a viceregal position in Canada, as Ontario’s lieutenant governor.
