AG REP OUT

-

Democratic U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson, House Agriculture Committee chair, failed to win re-election in Minnesota. Though Democrats retained control of the House and will again chair the committee, Peterson's exit could shift U.S. spending away from a region hammered by Donald Trump's trade war with China. The committee has jurisdiction over the Farm Bill, renewable energy, disaster assistance, nutrition, crop insurance and more. Winner Michelle Fischbach will seek a seat on the committee. Joseph Glauber, former USDA chief economist, said that “I would think that if Biden wins, Peterson would go right to the top

of the list for USDA secretary.”
