Hollywood North looking for stunt actors

- JENNIFER HAMILTON MCCHARLES

Hollywood North is looking for stunt actors.

And they need them urgently. Those who have a talent for doing stunts might have a chance to work in the film industry.

“We’re looking to develop stunt actors in Northern Ontario so that film productions don’t need to spend the money continuously hiring stunt people from Toronto for Northern Ontario projects,” said Paul Morin from Northern Ontario Stunts.

“Even with the booming film industry in the North, most stunt actors hired are still from Toronto because of the skills and experience shortage in Northern Ontario.”

Morin said to address this, they are launching development camps in North Bay and Sudbury.

He told The Nugget typical movie stunts can range from car crashes to gunfights to anything in between.

“Anytime a script demands too much risk for an actor. This could be something as simple as falling over from fainting to as complex as getting lit on fire. The workshop on May 4 and 5 in North Bay is intended to be an introduction to stunts and will focus on fight choreography, falls, reactions, etc. We intend to cover the entire floor of St. Andrew’s Church gym with mats. “

Morin said the purpose of the workshop isn’t to fill specific roles, but to establish a local talent base in the area for future productions, so there isn’t a number of people they’re looking to recruit.

He said they’re hoping to get 3050 participants at the workshop.

Stunt Coordinator Wayne Wells from Toronto will host the workshop.

The workshop takes place May 4 and 5 in the gymnasium at St. Andrew’s United Church from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
