A dog’s best friend is a horse

Queenswood Stables open on May 5 for its third fundraiser

-

The horses at Queenswood Stables are mighty kind, and they’re back for a third year along with the stables’ partner Simone Williams to raise funds for another animal organization: Bytown Association for Rescued Kanines (B.A.R.K.). The free lesson day in return for a donation takes place on Sunday, May 5, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the stables in Navan.

A donation of one’s choice will give the public a free riding lesson. All monies will go to support B.A.R.K. in its efforts to rescue and re-home dogs for which president/ founder Sharon McKeil is immensely grateful. Since the value of a lesson is $50, donations of $25 or more are encouraged and appreciated. Tax receipts will be issued starting at this amount.

In addition to the free lessons, the day will include on-site children’s activities, a bake sale, raffle, and refreshments, interest booths provided by contributing sponsors, stable tours, and the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in a beautiful farm-like setting very close to Ottawa. The day’s schedule: ❚ 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. — Queenswood riders get free lessons by appointment. Call 613-835-2085. ❚ 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Pony rides on a first-come, first-served basis.

Special needs children are welcome, too. ❚ 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — General public gets free lessons by appointment.

Queenswood Stables are at 518 Smith Rd. in Navan. Take 174 East to Tenth Line; continue south on Tenth Line until it ends in a 90-degree bend to the left and turns into Smith Road. The stables are the second driveway on the left after the bend.

We thank our sponsors: Dundas Veterinary Services Horses, Cats and Dogs.
