VOLUNTEER ROUNDUP

-

It’s the end of April! Time is passing very quickly, but if you have a little time to spare, why not help someone else? Volunteer Ottawa (a member of the United Way family of agencies) has plenty of ways you can help. Visit www.volunteerottawa.ca or call 613736-5270.

Shopify! Experience with online shopping hosts? ICAfrica is an Ottawa-based NGO, helping African women craft producers gain a wider market for their products. They are looking for a manager who is familiar with shopify.com or similar for a few hours a week. Contact Eugene Nzeribe at 613-371-9800 or Eugene_ nzeribe@icafrica.com

In The Garden: The Fletcher Wildlife Garden, on the east side of Prince of Wales Drive near the Experimental Farm, is looking for volunteers who enjoy working outdoors in various gardening-related activities. Groups meet weekly from late April into October. Groups include Invasive Species (Tuesday mornings), Butterfly Meadow (Wednesday evenings) and a Friday morning group that does outdoor work in the Backyard Garden, the plant nursery, and elsewhere in the FWG where tree plantings and other work are required. Volunteers are also needed for special events, including planting our demonstration Monarch way station in late April/early May, preparing for the Native Plants Sale in early June and four work bees on Sunday mornings in July, August and September. All activities start at the Interpretation Centre. Willingness to work with a team trumps lack of experience. Messages can be left by email at fwgvolunteers@gmail.com or at 613-234-6767, but please allow several days for a reply. The FWG is a long-term project of the Ottawa Field-Naturalists’ Club.
