We are so grateful our son is alive

- JANICE BRASIER

On Friday, Nov. 15, at around 1:45 in the afternoon, my 22-year old son Steven headed out to pick up his brother for work. While at a red light at Bank and Hunt Club, there was a collision with a dump truck and his two-door Honda Civic.

The impact caused the back end of the car to completely crumple, with the car travelling several metres to the other side of the intersection before stopping. My son was somehow able to stay focused enough to steer clear of the moving traffic and to stop by the side of the road where several bystanders rushed over to help.

It was not until the car was safely parked that Steven realized he had lacerations to the back of his head from the Civic’s rear lights, which had been pushed through the trunk and back seat to the driver’s seat.

My son immediately called 911 and then his brother to tell him he could not pick him up. The ambulance, fire truck and police arrived shortly after the collision and assisted Steven out of the car through the passenger-side door.

Several people including the police officer and paramedics were surprised to find my son alive, let alone fully conscious and with relatively minor cuts and bruises. He was taken to the hospital where doctors removed several shards of glass from his head and glued the deeper cuts closed. The car was towed pending investigation by insurance.

The outcome could have been so much worse. We are so grateful our son is still with us and that he was not more severely injured.

Take time each day to hug your family members and let them know how much you love them. Life is very precious.
