Tractor-trailer crash, fire snarls west-end traffic

- VITO PILIECI

Two people were injured, one seriously, and rush-hour traffic in the west end was hampered Friday morning as first responders dealt with a crash and fire involving a tractor-trailer truck.

The accident occurred at about 8 a.m. on Highway 417 near the Moodie Drive exit.

The truck and a passenger car apparently collided and ended up in the centre median.

OPP reported that the driver of the truck was ejected from the cab of the vehicle.

Paramedics said the 64-year-old truck driver sustained trauma to the head, chest and abdomen. He was in critical condition at hospital.

The driver of the small sedan, a 57-year-old man, sustained minor injuries in the collision and was declared in stable condition at hospital.
