Dodgy campervan drivers tracked

-

Holidayers renting campervans in Australia and New Zealand are being monitored for signs of dangerous driving. Operator Tourism Holdings has already turned in customers to police after the realtime monitoring equipment found evidence of highway infractions, the New Zealand Herald said. The telematics technology can track a motorhome’s speed and location and provide feedback to drivers through a screen in the cab. Warning signals intensify if speeding continues unabated. Company CEO Grant Webster said police are called in if operators feel public safety is threatened. “If we believe (drivers), are a serious risk to themselves and other people, we will take action to address that,” he said. The technology also allows the firm to link data on motoring scofflaws with nationality. “We can see what country of origin speed the most or have the harshest driving so we can get more specific about how we focus our education,” Webster said.
