SUMMER TRADITION
Competitors take part in the Skutsjesilen competition, a traditional sailboat race held in Lemmer, the Netherlands. The race features flat-bottomed crafts, from various cities in the province of Friesland, that were built at the beginning of the last century to take advantage of shallow waters. The skippers are said to be direct descendants of ancient Frisian skipper families. Every year during the summer holidays, they return to the sea with their crew to battle for the trophy, which they bring back to their town or region.
