Remember Cold War at Diefenbunker
Re: Victims of communism memorial behind schedule, Aug. 11.
Maybe it is time to reconsider a proposal I made when this expensive memorial was first proposed. In the Bank of Canada vault of the Diefenbunker Museum, Canada’s Cold War Museum, there is a plaque to the memory of those lost in the Cold War — surely an appropriate location and adequate memorial to this cause.
The Diefenbunker has become one of the region’s top tourist attractions and provides visitors from across Canada and around the world a tangible reminder of the dangerous decades of the Cold War. A better use of the federal money being put to the present lavish proposal would be toward the refurbishment of the aging Diefenbunker infrastructure.
