Rio’s Olympic Tennis Centre features 16 courts built for the Games. Most are permanent and will be one of the most important legacies of the Olympics.

Tennis was an Olympic sport from 1896 to 1924, but was dropped over a dispute about amateur participation. A demonstration sport in 1968 and 1984, it returned for good in 1988.

A Golden Slam refers to winning all four Grand Slams plus Olympic gold in one calendar year. Germany’s Steffi Graf is the only player to do this, in 1988.

Canada has won just one Olympic medal in tennis, a gold by Daniel Nestor and Sebastien Lareau at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

This will be the fourth Games for American twins Bob and Mike Bryan. They won gold in London and plan to retire after Rio.
