1 Athletics, heptathlon
She headed to Rio as one of Canada’s best hopes to win a gold medal, and Brianne Theisen-Eaton of Humboldt, Sask., will take part in the final events of the eight-discipline sport.
2 Swimming
Penny Oleksiak will compete in the four-by100-metre medley relay and attempt to tie a Canadian record with a fifth Olympic medal — while Ryan Cochrane will compete in the 1,500-metre freestyle. He won silver in 2012 and bronze in 2008.
3 Rowing
Canada’s women’s eights, who won silver at the 2012 Olympics in London, and have not finished off the podium at a world championships since, race for a medal.

Athletics, men’s 100-metre sprint
Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, below, and American Justin Gatlin are expected to fight for gold — with Bolt attempting to win his third-straight Olympic title — but Andre De Grasse of Toronto will try to shake things up. He finished third at the 2015 world championships.

Diving, women’s three-metre springboard
Quebecers Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware missed the podium in their synchro competition last weekend, so this is their one chance to win a medal in Rio.
3 Men’s golf
The men’s tournament concludes with a final 18 holes in Barra da Tijuca. The winner will become the first Olympic champion since Canada’s George Lyon won gold in 1904.
