first A Dutch Olympian has cut her Games short to protect someone she calls “my buddy, my friend” — her horse. Adelinde Cornelissen, a dressage rider, pulled out mid-test on Wednesday, citing a “toxic fever” her horse Parzival contracted. “Yesterday I came to the stables and his cheek was completely swollen and it appeared he was bitten by a spider or a mosquito or something,” Cornelissen said Wednesday. “His body was full of toxic fever (with a fever of ) over 40.” Veterinarians cleared him to compete, but Cornelissen said she chose not to risk his health.
