Family of missing woman asks public to aid search

- AIDAN COX

The family of a woman missing since Thursday morning is asking the public for help finding her.

Rebecca McCaffrey, 30, was last spotted near The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic Campus on Carling Avenue at around 9:45 a.m.

Since Thursday, search teams consisting of McCaffrey’s family and friends, as well as volunteers, have mobilized to try to find her, said Brenden Dorris, McCaffrey’s brother.

“There is great concern for her safety, and we hope that Ottawa will help find her,” Dorris said.

The search parties, which included about 130 volunteers on Sunday, according to Dorris, have covered parts of the city spanning from Churchill Avenue South to around the Rideau Canal and from the shore of the Ottawa River to around Hog’s Back Bridge. The search method being used is a very effective, systematic gridtype search, Dorris said.

McCaffrey is described as fivefoot-nine with brown eyes, a slim build and long, curly brown hair often worn in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a khaki V-neck T-shirt, light brown Lululemonstyle pants and running shoes.

McCaffrey’s mother, Laura Dorris, said her daughter is a well-educated and loving person who, over the past few months, has suffered from depression.

Laura and Brenden are encouraging people to join the Find Rebecca McCaffrey group on Facebook for more information on how to help with the search efforts.

Anyone with information about McCaffrey’s whereabouts can call the Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5212.
